Little One

Dry your tears
Little one

And rest
Your head
On me

Catch your
Breath
And realize

Some things
Aren’t meant
To be

Sit with me
Little one

And watch
The sun
Arrive

Life is for
The living

Be happy
You’re alive

Hold my hand
Little one

And to
The moon
We’ll go

Ride a cloud
To a dream

Bask in
The healing
Glow

Share my soul
Little one

It helps
You’re not
Alone

Days ahead
Are darker

The nights
Are paths
Unknown

Take my heart
Little one

I promised
From the
Start

I’d love
You
Forever

Together
Or
Apart

Maybe

20131103-054552.jpg

Maybe someday

The sky
Will
Be blue

The sun
Will shine

With thoughts
Of you

Maybe someday

The rain
Will
Ease

The clouds
Will break

The ache
Will freeze

Maybe someday

I’ll breathe
Again

Exhale
In peace

Believe
You then

Maybe someday

Sleep
Will be
My friend

No more
Nightmares

I’ll dream
Again

Maybe someday

Maybe

A Misty Morning

West Texas weather is somewhat unpredictable this time of year. It can be 80F one day and plunge to near freezing temps the next. I woke to a cloudy morning, but soon realized it was foggy. Fog is not very common here, and I enjoy the moisture it brings with it.
After dropping my son off at school, I headed to a local park to take pictures.
Walking through the park and disappearing into the haze, makes me feel like an apparition. Quite apropo this time of year.
The landscape, shrouded in mist, is eerily beautiful.
I’m going to shut up and let my pictures do the the talking 🙂

Do You…

Do you
Dream about me
See my face
Hold me close
Keep me safe

Do you
Hear my voice
Feel the warmth
The accent
My laugh

Do you
See my smile
The curve
The smirk
The pout

Do you
Pick up your phone
Reread messages
Relive
Get lost

Do you
Close your eyes
Inhale the
Scent of my hair
Taste my skin

Do you
Recall conversations
Laugh out loud
Snicker
Smile

Do you
Hear our songs
Flooded with
Memories
Weep unashamedly

Do you
Think about me
Wonder what I’m doing
Where I am
Who I’m with

Do you
Wish things
Were different
Want to go back
Never let go

Do you
Go for a walk
Talk to the night
Rage at the sky

Do you
Stare at pictures
Touch the screen
Trace the contours

Do you
Watch
The rise and fall
Of the sun
The moon
Count stars

Do you
Know my
Soul
Hear my
Heartbeat
Crave
My touch

Do you
Love me
Hate me
Thank and
Curse

Sometimes
You are
The color
Blue

Azure skies
Endless as
Your kindness
Infinite
Boundless

A blue morpho
Butterfly
Exquisite
Delicately alighting
On a shoulder

The Mediteranean
Cerulean
Warm
Calm
Deep

A Laguna blue
Corvette Stingray
Sleek
Powerful
Sexy

Midnight skies
Before a storm
Cloudy
Intense
Tempestuous
You

The Witching Hour

I don’t sleep well anymore. I have a hard time falling and staying asleep. I wake up several times in the night, and often just stay awake if it’s close to 5:00 a.m.

It is in the moments between first stirring and being fully awake that my mind kicks into gear and I’m compelled to pay attention to my thoughts. I’m able to examine these thoughts and feelings without the clutter of harsh realities that will sneak in later. I can look at the monsters that hide in the murky depths without flinching.

I do some of my best creative thinking in this dreamy interval that I’ve dubbed, “The Witching Hour.” Many times, I’m grabbing my phone or iPad and jotting down ideas, or writing out a poem that is fully formed, but for a few edits. It’s quite surprising, really. I’ve learned to see this as a thinking/writing opportunity rather than a lack of sleep.

My last blog post, “I Remember” is a result of The Witching Hour. It was written and posted before 6:00 a.m. If you haven’t read it, please scroll back and have a look. I’d love to know what you think.

At times
You are
Shades of
Red

Sweet
Like cherries
Savored
On the tongue

A glass of
Claret wine
Full-bodied
Rich
Intoxicating

Long stemmed
Roses
Crimson
Fragrant
Romantic

Fiery red
Molten lava
Coursing through
Your veins

Vermillion sunsets
Burnished copper
Glowing
Intense
You
